Little Lions

April 2017

Bunnies, eggs, and jellybeans,
That’s not all that Easter means.
There is another message too…
Jesus died for me and you!

HAPPY SPRING!  I am so excited to share the Easter story with our Little Lions class.  We will be very busy creating and celebrating all that Jesus has done for us!  We will learn about the life of Jesus and His resurrection.

This is the perfect time to learn about all the new “SPRING” life surrounding us—plants, trees, flowers, insects and so many adorable animals!

We will read several books by beloved children’s author Eric Carle.  Some of the titles are:  The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Quiet Cricket, and The Very Grouchy Ladybug.

This month we will really dive into counting and number recognition.  Our April letters are M, N, V, and W.

Springtime Blessings,
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

March 2017

“Today you are You, that is truer than true.  There is no one alive who is Youer that You.” Dr. Seuss

March has arrived and so has Dr. Seuss!  Did you know Dr. Seuss would be 113 this March 2nd?! His legacy lives on in the pages of his books and in our classroom.  Look forward to some crazy fun weaved throughout our classroom, because “fun is good”! Included in all this fun, we will also have some wearing of the green and leprechaun tricks!

As the month winds down we will welcome Community Helpers.  The Lion’s will be talking about all those wonderful helpers out there that take care of our communities; policemen, firemen, teachers, postmen, doctors, librarians…and more.  We will warmly welcome any parents who would enjoy coming and sharing their special occupations with us…so please ask me when you can come!

We are getting near to the end of our alphabet letters.  This month we will learn the letters J, S, P, and B.

Blessings,
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

February 2017

Hearts and hugs, cards and candy, friends and family…love is in the air!

This month we will continue to share the love of Jesus with others with many beautiful, one of a kind, artful notes and special projects to share with our friends and family.  Valentines will be such a highlight this month.  Each child is invited to bring a special valentine to share at our class parties.  Please have your child sign only their name on the valentines.  It is much easier for them to pass them out that way.  Also, if your child attends school both party days please bring valentines for both days.  A sign-up sheet will be posted soon for goodies for our parties.

Later this month, we will travel back to the age of DINOSAURS.  A journey into the past to explore these mysterious and fascinating creatures is always “quite a trip!”

We will focus on the letters S, J, and D…and take some time for review.  We will continue counting our way to 100 days (which is this month), create with many shades of PINK, and be sending home many HEART shapes!

Happy February!
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

January 2017

Happy New Year!  We hope everyone had a holiday filled with fabulous memories and joyful moments.  It’s great to be back into the school day routines and witness how much the children have grown.  This month our theme will be Noah’s Ark and the Ocean.

Our letters are S, L, and D.  The color is BLUE and the shape is the crescent.

Soon it’s mid-year assessment time. Teacher Staci will be working on individual assessments during the month and then get the information to parents as soon as possible.  If you have questions or concerns please set up a time to speak with her!

New Year blessings!
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

December 2016

Five Little Reindeer

Five little reindeer playing in the snow,
The first one said, “Can you see my nose glow?”
The second one said, “Listen to me sing!”
The third one said, “I can hear bells ring.”
The fourth one said, “Let’s eat the pie.”
The fifth one said, “I’m ready to fly!”
Then clomp went their hoofs and the snow fell white as the five little reindeer flew out of sight!

It’s that delightful time of year!  Christmastime is here…a time of giving, sharing and celebrating our heavenly Father’s greatest gift…JESUS!

We will center our learning this month on Christmas JOY for the story of Jesus’ birthday and all the excitement that it brings.  The children will be encouraged to make gifts and cards for whomever they wish.  No matter how lumpy, sticky or imperfect—they are surely a gift from the heart!

Our letters for the month are O, Q, and G. Our colors are green and yellow.  Watch for triangles and stars in all colors and sizes too!

We wish a wonderful and magical Christmas!

From our hearts to yours,
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

November 2016

What a magical time of year…so many opportunities for learning!  The crispness in the air will soon be here…exciting changes everywhere.

Our theme for November will start with a look at “Who’s on the Farm?” while we learn and play through a “Thankful Thanksgiving” in the coming weeks.

Turkey, turkey I love you!
Please be careful what you do!
Thanksgiving Day is almost here.
And we eat TURKEY every year!
Run and hide out in the woods.
And we’ll eat ________________as we should!

Our letters are U, C, and O.  Our colors are brown and yellow.

We had lots of fun at our Halloween party.  The children were adorable in their costumes.  Thank you to all who helped make our Halloween celebration special by providing treats!

Have a magical Thanksgiving!
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

October 2016

As you have hopefully seen, we have been very busy in the Little Lions class; practicing our names, cutting, gluing and tracing things!  October promises to be quite something too...celebrating autumn’s arrival and the excitement as Halloween draws near.  What a great time to be outside and make observations with your child.  It’s truly my favorite time of the year.

This month the Lions will enjoy new experiences as we explore more of God’s Beautiful World with “Autumn Treasures” and Pumpkin Time”. Later in the month we will enjoy some “Halloween Fun”.

We will work with “Big Line, Small Line” letters: H, T and I.  We will compare them to their lower case partners also.  We will identify, count and sort objects related to our theme, season and letters of the week.

All of the children seem to be adjusting well and are familiarizing themselves with the routines and classroom/school rules.  I hope that your child is feeling comfortable and happy about being in the Lion’s class by now.  Please let me know if I can help out in anyway if they are having any problems.

Have you tried to find out what’s happening at school, only to get the answer “nothing”? Try this tonight and see if you find out some good information!  Good questions to ask your child at the end of the school day are:

What did you choose to do during “free choice” time today?
What is the letter of the week?  What words do you think start with the letter of the week?
What happened in the story your teacher read today?

Here’s to the start of a great year!

May 2016

I’m glad I was your teacher; I’ve come to love you so.
I can’t believe the end is here. I hate to see you go.
Remember all the fun we had in all the things we did,
But most of all remember…YOU are one special kid!

Parents, it seems like yesterday when you were dropping your children off for the first time! This year has been an incredible year of growth and development in the Little Lions Class. Your children have brought such joy and happiness to our classroom! They have touched our lives in so many positive and rewarding ways.

Our theme for May will be all about having FUN…A to Z Come Play With Me! Each day will bring a new letter to review with lots of exciting activities, as well as, continuing to practice all the skills we’ve been working on all year! Why? Because in just a short time these growing Lions will be off to new adventures!

From the bottom of our hearts a big “Thank you” for all of your support, warmth, love and prayers this year! We are truly blessed to have gotten to know you and your family better.

God’s blessings,
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

April 2016

Spring has sprung!  One simply needs to take a quick peek outside to notice that the season of spring is upon us!   Flowers are blooming, the bugs are slowly returning, days are getting longer and warmer, and the trees are getting their foliage for another growing season.

April brings us into our time of Spring Fling!  The Lions will be learning about plants and flowers by growing them, dissecting them, observing them on their outside environment, and reading books about them.

We will also spend time observing, drawing, and reading stories about bugs, birds, baby animals, and butterflies.  This is a great time in your child’s life as they are curious and eager to learn about the world around them.  Take time to go outside and explore the world around us. Encourage your child to ask questions and then find answers together!

Our letters for the month are V, W, and X.  The classroom will also be filled with many opportunities to review, refine, and master many concepts in these last months of school.

Happy spring!
Teacher Staci and Teacher Lori

We will warmly welcome any parents who would enjoy coming and sharing their special occupation with us.

Our month will finish up with the love Jesus shared with all of us and the reason we celebrate Easter!

We are getting near the end of the alphabet letters.  This month we will learn the letters K, A, V, and M.

Amidst all the fun we’ll also have some wearing of the green and leprechaun tricks!

December 2015

Busy making popcorn balls,
Busy making greeting cards
Busy, busy me!
Say I will not be bound-
I’m so busy – I don’t see
How Santa gets around.
Leland B. Jacobs

It’s that magical time of year!  The joyous holiday season is here…a time of giving, sharing, and celebrating our Heavenly Father’s greatest gift – JESUS!

Through the month of December we will be exploring the Christmas story, learning new songs and poems, and decorating our classroom.  We will see that JESUS came for everyone by exploring unique customs for celebrating “Christmas around the World.”  Your children will be encouraged to make gifts and cards for whomever they want.  No matter how lumpy, sticky, or imperfect – they are surely a gift from the heart.

Academically, we will have many projects that we create throughout the coming weeks.  We will continue to work on social skills that express feelings with kindness and patience.  We will review letters L, F, T, O, E, H, I, and C and continue counting our way to 100 days of school.

In the midst of busy holiday schedules, here are some great ideas for family time this month: have a baking party with a friend or two, make family Christmas cards to share, help wrap Christmas gifts together, deliver foods and gifts to charities and distribute to those in need, and/or play soft Christmas music instead of watching TV.

Be on the lookout for fun with our Scavenger Hunt!  A list that will be making its way to your child’s folder soon!

Share the JOY and SPIRIT of the SEASON!

November 2015

Five little turkeys by the barn door, one waddled off, and then there were four.
Four little turkeys sitting under the tree, one waddled off, and then there were three.
Three little turkeys with nothing else to do, one waddled off and then there were two.
Two little turkeys sitting in the sun, one waddled off, and then there was one.
One little turkey—better run away!  Soon it will be Thanksgiving Day!

What a magical time of year...so many opportunities for learning!  The crispness in the air will soon be here…exciting changes everywhere!  Take a walk with your little angels and discover the wonderful world God made.  Create some “math moments” by collecting leaves — sort them by size, color, and shape!

Our themes for November will be LIFE ON THE FARM and THANKSGIVING FUN and TRADITIONS. Our letters are C, O, Q, G and our numbers are 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.  Our color is yellow and our shape is the rectangle.

We had lots of fun at our Halloween party!  The children were adorable in their costumes.  Thank you to all who helped to make our Halloween celebration special by providing treats!

Have a delightful Thanksgiving!

October 2015

In autumn when the trees are brown; the little leaves come tumbling down,
They do not make the slightest sound, but lie so quietly on the ground,
Until the wind comes puffing by, and blows them off-- towards the sky!

As you have hopefully seen, we have been very busy in the Little Lions class!  October promises to be quite something too…celebrating “Autumn Treasures”…what a great time to be outside and making observations with your child. Our letters will be E, H, and T.

Later in the month we will enjoy some “Halloween Fun”!

Good questions you can ask your child at the end of the school day are:

·         What did you choose to do during “free choice” time today?

·         What is the letter of the week?  What words do you think start with the letter of the week?

·         How many days have you been in school? (We’re counting to 100!)

Here’s to a great start of the year!
