Growing Tigers

February 2022

Posted on

Wow! What a month we have been enjoying! Silly Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow - the majority of the Tigers predicted he would see his shadow and there would be six more weeks of winter. We have been cutting, gluing, sprinkling and creating valentines for everyone. Love has definitely been in the air in the Tiger’s classroom.

Our letters this month are R, K, A and M. Our number is six, our color is pink, our shape is a heart and our virtue is sharing.

Our poem this month is:

I had a box of crayons, all shiny straight and new.
I lent one friend a crayon, and oops it broke into.
My friend said he (she) was sorry, but I said I don’t care.
Now we both can color, with one crayon we can share.

We explored science this month using hearts of different mediums. We had glass hearts, plastic hearts, candy hearts and cloth hearts. We used oil, water, vinegar, baking soda, Alka-Seltzer, and bubbly water. The children kept telling the teacher what to mix and thoroughly enjoyed watching the different reactions.  We also made crystal hearts using borax, water and pipe cleaners.  We learned that you cannot make crystals with cold water, it must be hot water. Science is definitely a highlight in our classroom.

Our favorite book this month has been Bear’s Big Bottom by Steve Smallman & Emma Yarlett.

We’ve been busy preparing for our 100th day of school on Wednesday, February 23 and Thursday, February 24. We have a lot of fun activities planned, including an ice cream party both days!!

We will be welcoming a new friend to our class and her name is Emilia. We are looking forward to having her join our group.

Blessings!
Teacher Robin and Teacher Katie C.
