Little Lions

February 2023

Posted on

It is so wonderful that we had a whole month to remind us about love and appreciate all the things we have in our lives.  When February began, the students came into the classroom already looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day! This month we have been learning all about Valentine’s Day and the ways we can show we care. These are lessons we can use the whole year through. We talked about Valentine’s treats and the children were surprised that chocolate is made from the seeds of a cacao tree! They were also intrigued that many candies are made with sugar that is processed from the sugarcane plant.  We also discussed there are many ways to show you care. Some people like to get hugs and other people show their love by doing something nice for someone else. We are continuing to use our Acts of Kindness Jar in the classroom whenever students do something to show they care. Whether it is giving somebody a high five, a smile & play, helping a friend to clean up or sharing a toy; we learned that these ways let our friends and family know that we care. We sang two kindness songs: “If You Love Me” (To the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It”) & “I’m Kind and I Know It” (To the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know it”).

The Lions began their exciting Valentine’s Day Extravaganza making heart wreaths. The students also made Valentine cards during the week using paper, crayons, and markers. Following the wreath making, the children had an entertaining Scavenger Hunt in the music room. The students worked really hard on their beautiful Valentine’s Day boxes in preparation for the Valentine’s Day card exchange. I am so proud of all my growing Lions for doing such an awesome job passing out their Valentines at the party!

This month our letters are B, R, K and A,our color was Pink, our number was 6, our shape was the Heart and our virtue was Patient!

Nursery Rhymes we learned this month: Baa Baa Black Sheep; Jack Be Nimble; Row, Row, Row Your Boat; Humpty Dumpty; The Ants Go Marching; Pat-a-cake

Books we really enjoyed this month: Love Monster by Rachel Bright, All About Friends by Felicity Books, Valenslime by Joy Keller & Ashley Belote, Will You Be My Valentine? By Cottage Door Press, Stick and Stone by Beth Ferry & Tom Lichtenheld.

Thank you all for sprinkling us with love this Valentine’s Day. We truly appreciate it!
