Growing Tigers

February 2023

Posted on

February has been a very Fun filled month! This month we are learning about insects and other bugs! We have already learned that all insects have three body parts, a head, thorax and abdomen and six legs. Some insects have wings, but not all. We have also learned that antanaes allow insects to feel and hear and smell! Arachnids have 8 legs, including spiders and scorpions!

This month is also full of fun Holidays! For Groundhog’s Day we all voted if he would see his shadow or not. Most of the class voted he would not see his shadow, but he did. Though, given the pink blossoms popping out on the trees around our church and school along with the random rain showers and icy wind, the class decided we were all correct… it’s Spring and Winter!

Valentine’s was a great opportunity for the Tigers to experience how when we fill other’s “Buckets” we are also filling our bucket. We talked about when they received a Valentine they felt happy AND they felt happy when they gave Valentines! Giving can make us feel just as happy, sometimes more so, than getting. We have also learned to say “I love you” in American Sign Language.

Our color is Pink, our shape is the Heart, our virtue is Patient and our letters are D, P, B and K.
Our number is 6: Make a curve. Then make a loop. There are no tricks to make a six!

We cheered making it to 100 days of school on February 16th. But we will do a proper celebration on Feb. 23rd and 24th! Please help your child count 100 of a small food item that they will be able to add a trail mix for snack. Some ideas are: raisins, pretzels, mini-marshmallows, m&ms, chocolate chips, pretzel sticks, craisins, gold fish crackers, etc. Please remember Nothing with Nuts!

If you would like to keep the counting fun going with your child, you are welcome to count 100 of the same item, put it in a clear Ziploc bag(s) with your child’s name and we will put it on our bulletin board to see how different “100” can look! Some fun ideas are: 100 buttons, cotton balls, paperclips, pennies, Q-tips, crayons, post-it notes, leaves, small rocks…

Books we are enjoying are “Shoo, Fly Guy” by Tedd Arnold, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud and Illustrated by David Messing, “Over In The Meadow” by Ezra Jack Keats and “Barthello’s Wing, A tale of a Very brave bug” written by Janie DeVos and illustrated by Nicola Joyner.

Thank you all for the sweet Valentine’s! They made the day extra special.
