Women in Ministry

Bethany Lutheran Church Women in Ministry began in 1955 as the “Mary-Martha Guild” and has evolved over the years.   We continue to be mission focused and sponsor events that encourage women to grow in their spiritual relationship with the Lord and one another and to help meet the needs of those in the local community and beyond.

We invite all women to share their ministry passions, spiritual gifts and talents. The following is a summary of ongoing activities.

Annual Bake Sale – The bake sale typically takes place in December in the Bethany Lutheran Church Family Center after a 9:30 AM service.   Proceeds benefit selected charities throughout the calendar year.

Infant Diapers – In partnership with New Creation Home Ministries in East Palo Alto, there is an on-going collection of disposable infant diapers of all sizes. The Infant Diaper Donation Box is  located at Bethany Lutheran Church in the Family Center.  For more information about New Creation Home Ministries, visit www.newcreationhome.org.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.  For 75 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.  To learn more about getting involved, visit http://www.lwml.org.

Recycling for Missions – Bring your aluminum cans and bottles, with a CA redemption value, to Bethany Lutheran Church on Sundays and put them in the blue bin marked “LWML” by the shed in the parking lot.  Proceeds support local charities and LWML mission grants for  California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District. Visit www.lwmlcnh.org to find out more.

LWML Mite Boxes – Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite (Luke 21:1–4), the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" — offerings above and beyond the support given to congregations and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  Mite Box contributions fund district and national mission grants. You may pick up a Mite Box from the cabinet in the Narthex, fill it with your change or dollar bills, and put it in the offering plate or in the large wooden Mite Box at the back of the church.

Bible Breakfast Study --Join us the second Saturday of the month -September to May- at the Bethany Church Family Center for a thematic discussion of the Word lead by an experienced leader.  There is one group for women, and one group for men.  Participants typically make a good will donation of $5.00 for breakfast and take turns serving the meal.  We are also sponsoring a child in Tanzania through World Vision. You can read about World Vision at  https://www.wvi.org.
